100 Year Celebration and 2019 Bevan Symposium
The School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences (SAFS) at the University of Washington celebrated its 100-year anniversary in conjunction with a very special Bevan Series Symposium. This insightful symposium centered on current issues related to aquatic biology and ecology, aquaculture, fisheries management, and ecosystems, plus the future of aquatic and fishery sciences. Video recordings of the presentations by alums, current students, post-docs, faculty past and present, and friends can be viewed on the SAFS YouTube channel.

Help us measure the global impact of SAFS
As part of the 100-year anniversary of the School, we are exploring the global influence of SAFS’s alumni.
Our goals are to:
- Create an interactive-map that shows where alumni and post-doctoral researchers came from prior to their SAFS experience and where they have gone
- Characterize alumni’s impact in their disciplines and the regions in which they work in their own words
If you have not yet taken the survey, please do so to add your information to our ever-expanding map.

Your Centennial Stories
The School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences is sharing stories from people who have been closely associated with the School over the decades. These personal tales from students, alumni, faculty, and staff highlight their interests in aquatic and fishery sciences and their personal reflections on time spent before, at, and after SAFS. Explore these short stories and please share your experiences by contacting André Punt or Dan DiNicola. You can view the growing collection of stories here or view our commemorative booklet below.
Boots in the Mud giving campaign
To commemorate the Centennial, SAFS has created an endowment called the Centennial Boots in the Mud Fund that will support student field experiences. To encourage support for this effort, the School will match all gifts up to $100,000. Visit our giving page to learn more. For questions, contact Gerald Cournoyer at 206-221-0562 or gcourn@uw.edu.
