Aquatic Conservation and Ecology (ACE) Minor
The Aquatic Conservation and Ecology (ACE) Minor at SAFS is designed for students majoring in other departments who wish to understand aquatic ecosystems and the responsible use of aquatic resources.
The Minor supplements a degree and provides additional opportunities for employment or graduate careers. The program is especially appropriate for students in Marine Biology, Oceanography, Environmental Science, Biology, and Environmental Studies.
The Aquatic Conservation and Ecology Minor requires a minimum of 26 credits, as follows:
NOTE: No more than 11 credits may overlap with the student’s major requirements
- Three courses (two of which must be at least at the 300 level; 13 credits minimum) from FISH 200 (3 or 5 credits), FISH 230, FISH 250, FISH 312, FISH 323, and either FISH 340 or 370.
- Q SCI 381 or Q SCI 482 (5 credits)
- Minimum of two upper-division FISH courses from the approved list totaling at least 8 credits. Refer to page 2 of the ACE minor checklist for an approved list of courses. Other courses may be approved by petition.
- Minimum 2.00 cumulative GPA for courses applied to the minor.

Enrollment in the Minor
The minor is open to all UW students who have reached 45 credits. Contact your major adviser to declare a minor in Aquatic Conservation & Ecology. Questions about minor coursework may be directed to the SAFS Undergraduate Adviser.
Recommended courses
Please pay attention to prerequisites and recommended courses for each of our classes. We recommend organic chemistry, biology (BIOL 180, 200, and 220) and pre-calculus.
