Research areas

For as long as I can remember, I have loved marine life which led me down a path towards marine biology. My education always aligned towards marine science, with a BS and MS in marine biology. For my Ph.D., I studied the adaptive potential of marine invertebrates to climate stressors using genomic techniques. Along the way, I became increasingly aware of the inequities in higher education, with marine biology being no exception. It is my hope now to address inequities in science education, with a focus in the marine field. My education research broadly looks at how language can be inclusive and welcoming to everyone. I am excited to teach topics in marine biology, while studying and implementing best teaching practices so that all students have the opportunity to succeed.
