Apply for a 2016-17 SAFS Scholarship! Deadline: April 10

The School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences (SAFS) is pleased to announce the availability of undergraduate scholarships in 2016-17. Available scholarships may be used for tuition, books, lab fees, or other academic expenses. Scholarships are awarded for the 2016-17 academic year and are generally disbursed evenly over three quarters (Autumn, Winter, Spring) unless requested otherwise – awards cannot be applied prior to Autumn 2016. Awardees must be UW SAFS majors registered full-time (12-18 credits) during the quarter(s) in which scholarship is being used. Students receiving financial aid should contact the UW Office of Student Financial Aid regarding how winning a scholarship might affect their award.

2016-17 SAFS Undergraduate Recruiting Scholarship
Application deadline: April 10, 2016

Eligibility
The SAFS Undergraduate Recruiting Scholarship is awarded to incoming UW undergraduates who exhibit exceptional academic achievement demonstrated by overall GPA and other measurable academic merit. Financial need may also be considered – need will be determined by the UW Office of Student Financial Aid and requires submission of the 2016 FAFSA. Applicants must be incoming undergraduate freshmen or transfer students in good academic standing who intend to pursue a major in Aquatic and Fishery Sciences and who will be enrolled at least one quarter during the 2016-17 academic year. Students who have already begun attending the UW may apply for scholarships via the current student application.

Scholarships may be awarded to more than one applicant – award amounts vary.

Decisions
Award notifications will be made in late April. Awardees will be expected to write a note of appreciation to the donor(s) who contributed to the scholarship endowment.

Application Instructions
Submit the following by the deadline:

  • Online application form.
    You will need a UW Net ID to access the application – if you do not have a UW Net ID, contact the Undergraduate Adviser for an alternative application form.
  • Copy of unofficial transcripts from other post-secondary institutions you have attended
    Optional, but highly recommended for transfer students or freshmen with Running Start credits

    • Contact the institution(s) for a copy of your unofficial transcript(s), download/scan and save a pdf copy with 2016-17_SAFSScholar​ship_LastNameFirstName_SchoolNameTranscr​ipt and upload to the Dropbox here.

Deadline: Sunday, April 10, 2016 – online scholarship form will automatically close at 11:59pm on April 10.


 

2016-17 Scholarships for Current SAFS Majors
Application deadline: April 10, 2016

Eligibility
We are accepting applications for the following scholarships in 2016-17 – students may apply to all scholarships at the same time via the application form:

  • Galloway Applied Fishery Sciences Scholarship
    The David and Debra Galloway Applied Fishery Sciences Scholarship is awarded to UW SAFS undergraduate students with a demonstrated financial need and academic merit – financial need will be determined by the UW Office of Student Financial Aid and requires submission of the 2016 FAFSA. Applicants must be currently declared UW SAFS majors in good academic standing who will be registered for at least one quarter in the 2016-17 academic year. Preference will be given to U.S. citizens or permanent residents in their Junior or Senior year who have an academic interest in applied fishery sciences. Award amounts vary.
  • Melvin Anderson Endowed Scholarship in Fisheries
    The Anderson Scholarship is awarded to UW SAFS undergraduate students who exhibit exceptional academic achievement demonstrated by overall GPA and other measurable academic merit. Financial need may also be considered – need will be determined by the UW Office of Student Financial Aid and requires submission of the 2016 FAFSA. Applicants must be currently declared UW SAFS majors in good academic standing who will be registered for at least one quarter in the 2016-17 academic year. Whenever possible, preference will be given to students from families involved in some segment of the commercial fishing industry. In 2016-17, one Anderson scholarship will be available for three full quarters of tuition at the in-state rate (regardless of applicant residency status).
  • SAFS Continuing Student Scholarship
    The SAFS Continuing Student Scholarship is awarded to UW SAFS undergraduate students who exhibit exceptional academic achievement demonstrated by overall GPA and other measurable academic merit. Financial need may also be considered – need will be determined by the UW Office of Student Financial Aid and requires submission of the 2016 FAFSA. Applicants must be currently declared UW SAFS majors in good academic standing who will be registered for at least one quarter in the 2016-17 academic year.

Decisions

    To apply for the Galloway Scholarship, Anderson Scholarship, and/or Continuing Student Scholarship, you only need to submit this application form one time. Please do not submit a separate application for each scholarship.
  • Copy of your unofficial UW transcript
    • Go to MyUW, download and save a pdf copy of your unofficial UW transcript with 2016-17_SAFSScholar​ship_LastNameFirstName_UWTranscr​ipt as the document’s title and upload to the Dropbox here.
  • Faculty Letter of Support – letter should be from a member of the SAFS faculty (we will accept letters from other UW faculty, if applicant has not yet taken a FSH course)
