Available scholarships may be used for tuition, books, lab fees, or other academic expenses. Scholarships are awarded for the 2015-16 academic year and are generally disbursed evenly over three quarters (Autumn, Winter, Spring) unless requested otherwise – awards cannot be applied prior to Autumn 2015. Awardees must be registered during the quarter(s) in which scholarship is being used. Students receiving financial aid should contact the UW Office of Student Financial Aid regarding how winning a scholarship might affect their award.

2015-16 SAFS Undergraduate Recruiting Scholarship

The School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences (SAFS) is pleased to announce the availability of undergraduate recruitment scholarships. Available scholarships may be used for tuition, books, lab fees, or other academic expenses. Scholarships are awarded for the 2015-16 academic year and are generally disbursed evenly over three quarters (Autumn, Winter, Spring) unless requested otherwise – awards cannot be applied prior to Autumn 2015. Students receiving financial aid should contact the UW Office of Student Financial Aid regarding how winning a scholarship might affect their award.

2015-16 SCHOLARSHIPS & ELIGIBILITY
The SAFS Undergraduate Recruiting Scholarship is awarded to incoming UW undergraduates who exhibit exceptional academic achievement demonstrated by overall GPA and other measurable academic merit. Financial need may also be considered – need will be determined by the UW Office of Student Financial Aid and requires submission of the 2015 FAFSA. Applicants must be incoming undergraduate freshmen or transfer students in good academic standing who intend to pursue a major in Aquatic and Fishery Sciences and who will be enrolled at least one quarter during the 2015-16 academic year. Students who have already begun attending the UW may apply for scholarships via the current student application.

Scholarships may be awarded to more than one applicant – award amounts vary.

DECISIONS: Award notifications will be made in late April. Awardees will be expected to write a note of appreciation to the donor(s) who contributed to the scholarship endowment.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Complete the online application form. You will need a UW Net ID to access the application – if you do not have a UW Net ID, contact the Undergraduate Adviser for an alternative application form.
  2. Optional: Unofficial copies of transcripts from other post-secondary institutions (highly recommended for transfer students or freshmen with Running Start credits) – Contact the institution(s) for a copy of your unofficial transcript(s), download/scan and save a pdf copy with your full name (last name first) and institution as the document’s title (ie. DoeJan_SeattleCentral.pdf) and upload to the Dropbox here.
  3. Optional: Additional materials – You may submit supplemental materials, including letters of recommendation, admissions essays, resume, etc. – please save all materials in a pdf folio with your full name (last name first) and UWApp as the document’s title (ie. DoeJan_UWApp.pdf) and upload to the Dropbox here.

Online application form must be submitted by the April 12 deadline in order to be considered for an award – late applications will not receive consideration. All supplemental materials must be received by the April 12 deadline in order to be considered with your online application.

Available scholarships may be used for tuition, books, lab fees, or other academic expenses. Scholarships are awarded for the 2015-16 academic year and are generally disbursed evenly over three quarters (Autumn, Winter, Spring) unless requested otherwise – awards cannot be applied prior to Autumn 2015. Awardees must be registered during the quarter(s) in which scholarship is being used. Students receiving financial aid should contact the UW Office of Student Financial Aid regarding how winning a scholarship might affect their award.

2015-16 SCHOLARSHIPS & ELIGIBILITY
We are accepting applications for the following scholarships in 2015-16 – students may apply to all scholarships at the same time via the application form:

  • Galloway Applied Fishery Sciences Scholarship
    The David and Debra Galloway Applied Fishery Sciences Scholarship is awarded to UW SAFS undergraduate students with a demonstrated financial need and academic merit – financial need will be determined by the UW Office of Student Financial Aid and requires submission of the 2015 FAFSA. Applicants must be currently declared UW SAFS majors in good academic standing who will be registered for at least one quarter in the 2015-16 academic year. Preference will be given to U.S. citizens or permanent residents in their Junior or Senior year who have an academic interest in applied fishery sciences. Award amounts vary.
  • Melvin Anderson Endowed Scholarship in Fisheries
    The Anderson Scholarship is awarded to UW SAFS undergraduate students who exhibit exceptional academic achievement demonstrated by overall GPA and other measurable academic merit. Financial need may also be considered – need will be determined by the UW Office of Student Financial Aid and requires submission of the 2015 FAFSA. Applicants must be currently declared UW SAFS majors in good academic standing who will be registered for at least one quarter in the 2015-16 academic year. Whenever possible, preference will be given to students from families involved in some segment of the commercial fishing industry. In 2015-16, one Anderson scholarship will be available for three full quarters of tuition at the in-state rate (regardless of applicant residency status).
  • SAFS Continuing Student Scholarship
    The SAFS Continuing Student Scholarship is awarded to UW SAFS undergraduate students who exhibit exceptional academic achievement demonstrated by overall GPA and other measurable academic merit. Financial need may also be considered – need will be determined by the UW Office of Student Financial Aid and requires submission of the 2015 FAFSA. Applicants must be currently declared UW SAFS majors in good academic standing who will be registered for at least one quarter in the 2015-16 academic year.

To apply for the Galloway Scholarship, Anderson Scholarship, and/or Continuing Student Scholarship, you only need to submit this application form one time. You will have the opportunity to indicate which scholarships you wish to be considered for later in the application. Please do not submit a separate application for each scholarship.
