NSF REU Opportunity for Undergraduates – Climate Effects on Species Interactions in Terrestrial and Aquatic Systems

Michigan State University NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU):
Climate Effects on Species Interactions in Terrestrial and Aquatic Systems
Mentors: Kileigh Welshofer (Graduate Student), Laura Twardochleb (Graduate Student), Dr. Phoebe Zarnetske (Assistant Professor)
Affiliations: Kellogg Biological Station, Long-Term Ecological Research, Department of Forestry, Department of Fisheries and Wildlife, Ecology, Evolutionary Biology, and Behavior Program, Michigan State University
Summary: The student will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with field based experiments in both terrestrial and freshwater systems. 

NASA Summer 2016 Internship Online Recruiting Fair Feb. 17

There will be  a Summer 2016 internship online recruiting fair on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 from 13:00 to 17:00 Eastern Standard Time.  All NASA facilities will be participating.  It will be a text chat environment, with each NASA center having a virtual booth, staffed with engineers, scientists, and education specialists from all over the agency.  You will be able to ask the engineers and scientists about their exciting work.

2016 Undergraduate Research Symposium – Application now open! (due Feb.22)

Dear Students,
The application for the 19th Annual UW Undergraduate Research Symposium is now open!  The Sym­po­sium will be held on May 20, 2016 in Mary Gates Hall.
The Symposium is a celebration of undergraduate accomplishments in research, scholarship, and creative expression in all academic disciplines.  Students may present their research either in a poster session or an oral presentation session.  

NPAFC Internship Applications due March 16, 2016

The North Pacific Anadromous Fish Commission (NPAFC) invites citizens from its member countries (Canada, Japan, Republic of Korea, Russian Federation, and USA) to apply for the NPAFC Internship Program.  One intern will be accepted upon approval of the Commission.  The intern will work at the NPAFC Secretariat office in Vancouver, BC, Canada. 

MS Fisheries Opportunity at University of Alaska

M.S. Graduate Research Assistantship Opportunity, University of Alaska Fairbanks
This project will explore the role of climate and other factors on life history expression and survival in sockeye salmon on Kodiak Island, Alaska.  
Applications are sought for a M.S. position to work on a collaborative project with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) under the supervision of Dr. Peter Westley (https://www.sfos.uaf.edu/directory/faculty/westley/) in the School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF).

Since 1989, NSF has supported bringing students to conduct individual research projects with a scientist-mentor at either Chesapeake Biological Lab or Horn Point Lab of the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science. This is a great opportunity to conduct research with a mentor and spend a summer by the Chesapeake Bay.
