Now accepting applications for 2017-18 Mortar Board Alumni/Tolo Foundation Scholarships

On behalf of the Mortar Board Alumni/Tolo Foundation, I’m pleased to announce that we are now accepting applications from outstanding University of Washington students for the 2017-2018 Mortar Board Alumni/Tolo Foundation scholarships.
Students from all fields of study are invited to apply. Scholarship applicants do not need to be members of Mortar Board.
The Mortar Board Alumni/Tolo Foundation awards more than $40,000 in total scholarships to University of Washington students annually.

Students in our REU program can choose to conduct research in Monterey Bay in the following areas (the list of research topics within each area is not exhaustive):
Marine Biology and Ecology (includes population ecology, kelp forest ecology, marine landscape ecology, marine microbiology, population genetics, ecophysiology and biomechanics) 

Sea Grant/NOAA Fisheries Graduate Fellowship open

Apply for the Sea Grant/NOAA Fisheries Graduate Fellowship
The fellowship is sponsored by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) through the National Sea Grant College Program. It provides funds and enables graduate students enrolled in doctoral programs to work directly with NOAA Fisheries scientists on issues of public interest. Fellows are provided with two- and three-year research opportunities in either population and ecosystem dynamics or marine resource economics.

ble and we encourage you to consider applying! This fellowship offers University of Washington graduate/professional and undergraduate students (from the Seattle, Tacoma, and Bothell campuses) an opportunity to engage in independent exploration and travel abroad.
The first information session is Wednesday, 11/2, 12:30-1:30 pm in the Allen Auditorium, Allen Library!

Applications are being accepted from any student who is currently enrolled at an academic institution in the United States and who meets the specific criteria for one of the four grants listed below. NOAA Dr. Nancy Foster Scholarship Program Available Now

The NOAA Office of National Marine Sanctuaries is seeking applications for the Dr. Nancy Foster Scholarship Program from individuals, particularly women and minorities, who, due to financial constraints, may otherwise not be able to pursue an advanced degree in oceanography, marine biology, maritime archaeology, and all other science, engineering, social science, and resource management disciplines involving ocean and coastal areas. The program seeks to increase the number of women and minorities in these scientific disciplines, particularly as they relate to the mission of the NOAA Office of National Marine Sanctuaries. 

The Plan2GO! scholarship is now open!

The Plan2GO! scholarship application is now open.  The application deadline is December 1, 2016.
The Plan2GO! scholarship awards up to $5,000 for students to participate in an exchange program with one of the UW’s partner institutions.
Students who are nominated for this award have up to three years to use the funding so long as they are still undergraduates when they go abroad. 

Udall Scholarships: Opportunities for American Indian and Alaska Native students, and enviro and outdoor leader

The Udall Foundation offers a prestigious scholarship for undergraduate sophomores and juniors in any major seeking careers in:

environmental fields, and
American Indian and Alaska Native students seeking careers in Tribal Public Policy or Native Health Care.

Dean John A. Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship open

Washington Sea Grant is now accepting applications for the 2018 Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship. The program, which is sponsored by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) National Sea Grant College Program, enables fellows to work for one year in the U.S. Congress or a federal agency, on ocean, coastal and environmental issues. 

Scholarship & Sedlock Scholarship for sophomores & juniors planning for careers in STEM research

The UW campus application for students interested in seeking nomination for the Goldwater Scholarship is now available! Brief details are included here, and further information and application instructions are at http://expd.uw.edu/expo/scholarships/goldwater. Please find a flyer attached as well.
In 2016-17, UW’s Thomas Sedlock Icon Scholarship will also be awarded in connection with UW’s Goldwater Scholarship nominations. Any UW Goldwater nominees not awarded the Goldwater Scholarship will receive a Sedlock Icon Scholarship in the range of $3,000-$6,000.
