Summer COASST Internships – please pass along to students

Hi All,
The Coastal Observation and Seabird Survey Team (COASST) is looking for a few more undergraduate interns for the Summer quarter. Could you please spread the word to your students? Flyers and internship descriptions are attached.
The following internships are available:
– Citizen Science Internship
– Marine Debris Internship
– Seabird Data Internship
Students can obtain 2-3 college credits through COASST. 

Washington State Legislative Internship Information sessions, May 13th and 14th

The Washington State Legislative Internship Program is having information sessions on the UW-Seattle campus on May 13th and 14th. ALL majors are welcome to apply for this amazing internship opportunity. Information sessions will be held in Gowen 1A (the Olson room) at the following time:
May 13th 11:30pm-noon
May 13th 2:30am-3:00pm
May 14th 9:30am-10:00am
May 14th 3:30pm-4:00pm
One of the country’s most highly regarded legislative internships, the program offers students the opportunity to gain professional, paid work experience and study the legislative process at the state level.

The Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences (BIOS) has received funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF), for the Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Program, to support eight internships for undergraduate student research at BIOS during fall 2014.
An REU internship at BIOS is a great way to gain the experience necessary to embark on graduate studies or careers in the marine and atmospheric sciences. 

Research Funding: WRF Fellowships and Levinson Awards

Announcing two research funding opportunities. These two opportunities share a common application with a deadline of May 30 with funding starting next academic year. Please share widely.

Washington Research Foundation Fellowships
Washington Research Foundation Fellowships (WRFF) for advanced undergraduates support promising students who work on creative and sophisticated science and engineering research projects under the guidance of UW faculty. WRFFs target undergraduates who have already participated in undergraduate research for at least three quarters and who are working beyond an introductory level in a project that requires creativity and advanced knowledge. 

Fisheries Summer Internship–Early application

BBNA will be hiring two interns; one will be based at the Fisheries Research Institute at Lake Aleknagik and the other will be based at Lake Clark National Park Service at the Newhalen River counting tower.
Attached is the flyer, BBNA’s general application (under position applied for please put ‘fisheries summer intern’), and a description of the job. Applications are due March 21, 2014. 

Brightwater Summer Internships- Deadline March 31st

Summer Internship Opportunity for Undergraduates
Brightwater (near Woodinville, WA) is offering several internship spots this summer for undergraduates who want to create inspiring outdoor learning experiences for children 4-12 while working in a beautiful natural setting. This is a 5-week internship with a small stipend to help with living expenses. For more information and application materials, visit islandwood.org/brightwatercamps. UW Sea-Going Research and Discovery Opportunity for Students- Deadline March 7th!

We are looking for undergraduate and graduate students interested in applying for the UW Sea-Going Research and Discovery course (OCEAN 411), which will include a sea-going component from July to October 2014. The VISIONS ’14 expedition will take place aboard the 274-foot global-class Research VesselThomas G. Thompson and will utilize the state-of-the-art underwater robotic vehicle called ROPOS. We will be working at an active submarine volcano and reaching depths of 9000 ft beneath the ocean’s surface. 

Paid Internships – 2014 Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP)

The Washington NASA Space Grant Consortium is pleased to announce the opening of the Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) application as of today.
The program offers paid summer internships at STEM labs located around the University of Washington campus and affiliated agencies. Full-time internships are paid $4,000 and part-time internships are paid $2,000. The program dates are from June 13 – August 22 or UW summer quarter. 

Application Deadline Feb. 24 for Undergraduate Research Symposium!

The application deadline for the 17th Annual UW Undergraduate Research Symposium is Monday, February 24th!
The Sym­po­sium will be held on May 16, 2014 in Mary Gates Hall. Last year, more than 1,000 under­grad­u­ates par­tic­i­pated.
To learn more and complete an appli­ca­tion, visit the Under­grad­u­ate Research Sym­po­sium sec­tion of the URP web­site. All UW under­grad­u­ates involved in research are encour­aged to apply.
