The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is pleased to announce the availability of scholarships for undergraduate students majoring in disciplines related to oceanic and atmospheric science, research, or technology, and supportive of the purposes of NOAA’s programs and mission. Over 100 students are selected each year for participation in the Ernest F. Hollings (Hollings) and Educational Partnership Program (EPP) scholarship programs.
PhD position in the project “Macroecology and diversity of species interactions” at the University of Oulu, Finland.
Coevolution among species via species interactions is the major driving force of biodiversity. Yet, the concept of and metrics to estimate species interactions is largely missing from biodiversity studies. The project has two major aims. First, our goal is to create a novel community diversity index, which quantitatively grade communities in terms of the sign, strength and variation of interactions.
Supporting Undergraduate Research Experiences in Environmental Health (SURE-EH)
Supporting Undergraduate Research Experiences in Environmental Health (SURE-EH) is now accepting applications from underrepresented undergraduate students enrolled at the University of Washington to conduct environmental health science-related research alongside faculty in the School of Public Health’s Department of Environmental and Occupational Health Science (DEOHS). Student researchers will be eligible for up to 2 years of funding, full-time during summer and part-time during the academic year.
UC Davis received a $3M award from the National Science Foundation in support of a new Research Traineeship (NRT) program “Sustainable Oceans: From Policy to Science to Decisions”. Our Sustainable Oceans NRT will train the next generation of PhD marine scientists under a new paradigm that puts the policy focus on the front-end of the research and training enterprise as a means of building more effective links between the science and decisions on sustainable use of living marine resources.
The Mary Gates Endowment for Students is currently accepting scholarship applications. Mary Gates Scholarships provide $5,000 ($2,500 per quarter for two quarters) for students to pursue leadership or research projects. These scholarships benefit students in the current academic year, and are open to all UW undergraduate students regardless of class year, major, residency status, or UW campus. Deadlines are coming up soon, so attend an information session!
The QSC’s Intern Application Is Now Open!

The Padilla-Gamino lab is looking for a motivated, hard-working and curious student to join their team on a
project entitled “Mitigating the effects of global change on aquaculture in the northeastern Pacific Ocean”.
This large project has numerous sub-components, any of which could serve as the basis for a capstone project.
It would be ideal for someone interested in field work, climate change, invertebrates, and parental effects,
and learning how to conduct various physiological tests on both adult and larval shellfish.
Schmidt Ocean Institute is currently accepting applications for the 2017 Student Opportunities program. The Student Opportunities program is a unique chance for students to obtain valuable hands-on research skills and at-sea experience. You can view previous students experiences here. Students will join the Schmidt Ocean Institute crew and scientists aboard R/V Falkor, and assist with unique cutting-edge marine science research. For a list of the 2017 cruises visit here.
