GPSS Conference on May 6

As the end of the quarter is coming, you must be busy working on your term papers and projects. Why don’t you share your wonderful work right on our campus? GPSS hosts a conference for UW graduate and professional students on May 6. This conference is to think about what we do and study as graduate and professional students in the changing geopolitical climate. 

Hawaii cetacean survey invitation

Aloha colleagues,
The Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center, in partnership with the Southwest Fisheries Science Center, will be conducting an EEZ-wide survey in Hawaii (main and northwestern Hawaiian Islands) for cetaceans in the summer and fall of 2017. The Hawaiian Islands Cetacean and Ecosystem Assessment Survey, or HICEAS, will take place on seven 25-30 day legs on 2 ships (R/Vs Oscar Sette and Reuben Lasker) from July to December 2017. 

California Coastal Act Request for Submissions

The Stanford Environmental Law Journal is requesting short articles from a variety of perspectives to help us commemorate the 40th anniversary of the California Coastal Act. Please consider submitting a statement of interest, and send this on to anyone who may be interested.
Introduction:

In recognition of the fortieth anniversary of the passage of the California Coastal Act, the Stanford Environmental Law Journal is soliciting short articles highlighting the Act’s significance for California, the United States, and the world.

New! Career Preparation Seminar in Autumn 2015: FISH 300

Starting in Autumn 2015, SAFS will partner with the School of Oceanography to offer FISH/OCEAN 300 Exploring Opportunities in Marine Sciences, a seminar designed around preparing juniors and seniors for next steps after graduation.
In this course you will:

Plan courses and prepare for graduation
Explore academic, research, and career opportunities in the marine/freshwater sciences
Prepare to apply for jobs and/or graduate school

wildlife genetics/bioinformatics research opportunity in Germany

We are starting a new research fellowship collaboration with the Senckenberg Research Institute in Germany. Their focus is on wildlife conservation genetics and bioinformatics. I’ve attached the posting (positions starting in January 2016) and am hoping that you could think about whether you know of any great candidates. Please recall that this NIH program targets minorities and students from other underrepresented communities.
