UW Study Abroad – Winter/Spring 2017 Exchange Deadline is May 15

Hello from UW Study Abroad.
Are you interested in studying Biology in Australia? Communications in New Zealand? Business and Asian Studies in Singapore? Engineering in Germany
With 55 direct exchange programs in 27 countries, UW has numerous international opportunities for students in a variety of majors. Most of the exchanges are available as either semester or year-long programs.
The priority deadline for winter and spring 2017 exchange programs is May 15.

Two SAFS undergrads selected for 2016 Bonderman Fellowship

SAFS is pleased and excited to announce that Samantha Murphy and Griffin Hoins, both undergraduate SAFS majors, were selected to receive a 2016 Bonderman Fellowship.

Fifteen University of Washington students were recently awarded Bonderman Travel Fellowships that will enable them to embark on solo journeys that are at least eight months long and take them to at least two regions and six countries of the world.

Science Communications Fellowship
Spring – Summer 2016 

Washington Sea Grant will offer a paid, two-quarter (24 weeks) communications fellowship that enables students to build portfolios and gain recognition as science writers and communicators.

Fellows are given opportunities to share their marine knowledge with WSG’s diverse audiences and may write features for Sea Star newsletter, work with the media and manage media lists, write for social media or develop video projects to connect people with marine science that matters. 

UW McNair Scholars Program Opportunities

If you are interested in pursuing a Ph.D. after you graduate from the UW, the McNair Scholar’s Program can help you achieve this goal!
The McNair Scholars Program, which prepares students for doctoral study, is a federal TRiO program funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Education. The McNair Scholars Program offers many benefits. McNair Scholars receive academic and personal support from advisers and mentors, a research stipend to complete an original research project, assistance in applying to graduate schools, funding to travel to research conferences and to visit graduate schools, and resources to help prepare for the GRE, among many other benefits.  

Support for student-led diversity meetings

The College has formalized its support for student-led, diversity-oriented meetings and I would love your help getting the word out to your students.  Similar to the Student Travel and Meeting Fund, students (individually or as an organization) can apply for up to $1500 in support of meetings attended by CoEnv students where the central goals of the meeting include linking science to policy or real-world application, and advancing diversity and inclusion within the College, the University and relevant STEM fields.

MTS is pleased to announce that we are now accepting applications for all of our 2016 scholarships. Each year MTS offers thousands of dollars in scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students who are studying in the marine science, marine engineering and/or marine technology field. Individuals must hold an MTS student membership to be eligible.

The School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences (SAFS) is pleased to announce the availability of undergraduate scholarships in 2016-17. Available scholarships may be used for tuition, books, lab fees, or other academic expenses. Scholarships are awarded for the 2016-17 academic year and are generally disbursed evenly over three quarters (Autumn, Winter, Spring) unless requested otherwise – awards cannot be applied prior to Autumn 2016.
