Celebrating open and connected rivers: “Share your Story” for World Fish Migration Day

Hey SAFS community!
Just imagine for a minute if all the stories from around the world about what connected rivers mean for fish and people were collected in one place…well, the FEC lab is partnering with Society for Conservation Biology and World Fish Migration Foundation on an ambitious project for the upcoming World Fish Migration Day to do that, and are asking for help/stories/social media love – whatever you’ve got!

Call for Symposium Volunteers!
The coordinators of the Living Breath of wǝɫǝbʔaltxʷ: Indigenous Food and Ecological Knowledge Symposium are recruiting volunteers for this year’s  Symposium scheduled for May 13-14, 2016 in the wǝɫǝbʔaltxʷ (Intellectual House) at the University of Washington (UW).
We have a number of volunteer shifts available, which will be filled on a first come, first serve basis.  Please sign-up for volunteer shifts on UW’s Catalyst by May 6, 2016.

UW Botanic Gardens BioBlitz: May 6-7
Join the UW Botanic Gardens on May 6 & 7 for our 2016 BioBlitz at the Washington Park Arboretum.  A BioBlitz is an intense period of biological surveying in an attempt to record all the living species within a designated area. Groups of scientists, naturalists and community volunteers conduct an intensive field study over a continuous time period.  

Tutor in a K-12 School in Seattle during Spring Quarter!

Tutor during Spring Quarter at an elementary, middle or high school in Seattle with the UW Pipeline Project!
The UW Pipeline Project recruits, trains and places UW students as volunteer tutors in Seattle schools and community organizations. We are recruiting tutors for Spring quarter to work with about 40 different K-12 schools and community organizations and would love to have you!

Seattle MESA is recruiting for volunteers to help out at MESA Day!
Seattle MESA (Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement) will be hosting MESA Day at North Seattle College March 26th, Saturday.
We are looking for volunteers, who can participate in many ways, including: judge challenges, lead mini competitions, present demonstrations, and basic event logistics (taking pictures, serving lunch, for example).

It’s a new year and we need fish feeders at the Imprint pond!

Chum salmon fry are coming soon (late Jan-mid Feb) and CWCAP needs your help to feed them!
Now is the time to choose your feeding slot(s).  Here is a link to the current Salmon Imprint Pond Schedule and available time slots.
Email or call your preference for day:  Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat, or Sun and 30-45 minute slot:
Morning (7-9AM)
Mid-day (11-1PM)
Evening (4-6PM)
_Duration of your feeding slot: Recall that each slot will require approximately 30-45 minutes – up to an hour – depending on the amount being fed and the number of possible park visitors while you are there.  

University Disciplinary Committee Request

Greetings, UW Students-
The Office of Community Standards and Student Conduct is currently seeking new student members for the University Disciplinary Committee (UDC).  The University Disciplinary Committee is comprised of students and faculty who hear disciplinary cases on behalf of the University. Students who have allegedly violated the Student Conduct Code can appear before the University Disciplinary Committee or may choose to have an informal hearing with a Community Standards and Student Conduct Hearing Officer.   

MESA Tutoring: Earn Credits, Change Lives

Seattle MESA is looking for dynamic UW students who would like to become a volunteer tutor.
We provide STEM based tutoring to high school and middle school students in the Seattle area.
Some benefits of tutoring with Seattle MESA:

Develop your teaching skills
Build confidence in your STEM subject areas
Motivate and mentor a student
Work with other great UW volunteers
Travel is available through UCAR

Volunteers will be trained and there are eight (8) tutoring sessions that best fit your class/work schedule to choose from.
