This annual symposium showcases the research of the UW School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences’ Alaska Salmon Program undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, staff and visiting scientists. Our program focuses on all aspects of the ecology of Pacific salmon in the North Pacific, Bering Sea, and watersheds of Southwest Alaska.
We invite you to the 26th Annual Graduate Student Symposium at the School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences this Thursday, November 19th, 2015! Come join us to learn about the creative and innovative research that takes place at SAFS and celebrate the work of your peers, colleagues, or students. Thursday, Oct. 29, is the Sustainability Careers Meet & Greet at Odegaard Library ALC 136, 3:30 p.m. Representatives from commercial, non-profit and government organizations will be on hand to talk about the career path they took and opportunities in the field. The event will be followed by a poster session for Campus Sustainability Fund and Green Seed Fund projects.
Speakers include: Rick Albright, Environmental Protection Agency; Jacqueline Drumheller, Alaska Airlines; Leah Missik, Master Builders Association – BuiltGreen Program; and Tom Watson, King Country EcoConsumer Program

Are you interested in working for a tech company but aren’t a computer science student? Join us to learn about the hundreds of jobs in tech companies for non-tech majors! Hear from a panel of employers (DocuSign, Expedia, Google, Payscale) about what those jobs are and how to apply for them. Come for the panel and stay for time to mingle and talk with panelists after the event.
We’re digging up native plants and need your help!
Join other volunteers digging up trees and shrubs from this future college site in the morning and then dig free plants for yourself! In the afternoon, we’ll pot-up the salvaged plants at the nursery where free potted plants are given away! The plants will be installed on King County environmental restoration projects, where they will help reduce erosion, shade streams and provide habitat.
