Funding available: Travel/Meeting, Diversity, Yakama and Hall Funds

The College of the Environment is now accepting applications for several funding opportunities:

Diversity-Oriented Meeting Fund

Eligibility: Open to all CoEnv students.  Students can apply for up to $1500 in support of meetings attended by CoEnv students where the central goals of the meeting include linking science to policy or real-world application, and advancing diversity and inclusion within the College, the University and relevant STEM fields.

LGBTQ+ in Earth/Environmental Sciences

In accordance with our (hopefully) constant efforts to improve the representation and experience of traditionally underrepresented groups in academia and the sciences, I’d like to invite any interested student (undergrad or grad), faculty or staff to a meeting to discuss the potential role of an organization for LGBTQ+ people in the Earth/environmental sciences here at UW. My goal is to get a regular group going at some point, and the purpose of this meeting would be to start defining what work needs to be done and how such an organization could be useful and effective.

UW Quantitive Ecology & Resource Management Program

The Quantitative Ecology and Resource Management (QERM) program is recruiting for Autumn 2016 and would appreciate your help getting the word out to prospective students!
QERM is a unique interdisciplinary graduate program, offering MS and PhD degrees, designed for students interested in applying quantitative tools to ecological and resource management issues. Competitive applicants have a strong quantitative background.
The application deadline is December 15, 2015.

Applications open for the 2015-2016 Husky Leadership Certificate cohort!

Husky Leadership Initiative Home Page

Applications are now open for the 2015-16 Husky Leadership Certificate cohort. Through the  Husky Leadership Certificate (HLC), students identify, articulate, and demonstrate their leadership growth and accomplishments. Students create a leadership e-portfolio, and are matched with a mentor who helps the student reflect upon and give voice to their leadership development. Students must be a junior or senior to be considered.

UCSC graduate opportunity

UCSC’s EEB department has received a GANN training grant. This grant will provide fellowship support for 3 full years of grad funding to the top students from underrepresented backgrounds applying to our PhD program. Fall 2016 applicants will be eligible for these fellowships, which will provide stipend support at the the level of the NSF GRFP.

If you have any excellent undergrads, recent grads, or master’s students from underrepresented backgrounds looking to pursue a PhD in aquatic ecology, eco-evolutionary dynamics, fish ecology, etc., please have them contact me.
