Study overseas in Guam and earn UW credits – Early Fall 2016

Applications are now being accepted for the iSchool Guam: Oral Traditions, Knowledge, & Science Early Exploration Seminar. In this seminar, we will explore the concept of information within oral traditions and the relationship to contemporary notions of knowledge and science. This 5-credit seminar is open to all UW undergraduate and graduate students. The program description is below, and the online application along with more info are on the iSchool Guam Online Application and Program Brochure.  

New Study Abroad Scholarships for STEM Majors

UW Study Abroad is excited to announce new scholarships for STEM majors studying abroad in the 2016-17 academic year.
The first scholarship, GO! STEMXchange, offers up to $5000 to STEM majors participating in a departmental or university-wide exchange program. Washington State residents eligible for financial aid (students do not have to be Pell Grant eligible) may apply. Visit the UW Global Opportunities website in winter quarter for more information. 

UW Study Abroad – 2016-17 Exchange Application Deadline

Greetings from UW Study Abroad.
Are you interested in studying Marine Biology in Australia? How about Business and Asian Studies in Japan? Or maybe Engineering in Germany?
With 55 direct exchange programs in 27 countries, UW has numerous overseas opportunities for students in a variety of majors. Most of the exchanges are available as either semester or year-long programs.
Applications for 2016-17 exchange programs are due on January 15. 

Boren Scholarship for study abroad

The Boren scholarship for undergraduates deadline is approaching and I’d greatly appreciate you sharing the information with your students.  The Seattle campus deadline is: January 11, 2016.
 Here’s the CliffsNotes version of the Boren Undergraduate Scholarship:
Award Amounts:

$8,000 for a summer program (special initiative for STEM students only)
$10,000 for a semester abroad (think about anyone you know going on a relevant exchange)
$20,000 for a full academic year

This is a reminder that UW’s annual Study Abroad Fair is taking place tomorrow, Tuesday, November 10 from 10am–2pm in the HUB North Ballroom. UW offers more than 500 study abroad programs in 70 different locations. Don’t miss the opportunity to learn more about these programs by speaking with faculty-led program directors, affiliated program providers and exchange partners from 5 continents!

This fellowship offers University of Washington graduate/professional and undergraduate students (from the Seattle, Tacoma, and Bothell campuses) an opportunity to engage in independent exploration and travel abroad. 

Critical Language Scholarship

The application 2016 Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program in fourteen critical foreign languages is now open.
The CLS Program is a program of the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. It is a fully-funded overseas language program for American undergraduate and graduate students. With the goal of broadening the base of Americans studying and mastering critical languages and to build relationships between the people of the United States and other countries, CLS provides study opportunities to a diverse range of students from across the United States at every level of language learning.
