This summer, I got to experience life in Hakodate, Japan! Hokkaido, the northern part of Japan, is home to the city with delicious dairy, the freshest seafood imaginable, and our host, Hokkaido University. Our trip was only 2 weeks, but filled with adventures that I’ll remember forever.

The 2017 Bonderman Travel Fellowship application is now availa
ble and we encourage you to consider applying! This fellowship offers University of Washington graduate/professional and undergraduate students (from the Seattle, Tacoma, and Bothell campuses) an opportunity to engage in independent exploration and travel abroad.
The first information session is Wednesday, 11/2, 12:30-1:30 pm in the Allen Auditorium, Allen Library!
The Plan2GO! scholarship application is now open. The application deadline is December 1, 2016.
The Plan2GO! scholarship awards up to $5,000 for students to participate in an exchange program with one of the UW’s partner institutions.
Students who are nominated for this award have up to three years to use the funding so long as they are still undergraduates when they go abroad.

Are you interested in studying Marine Biology in Australia? How about Asian Studies at the National University of Singapore? Or maybe Humanities at the University of Vienna?
With over 50 exchange programs in 27 countries, UW has numerous overseas opportunities with coursework available in a variety of majors. Most of the exchanges are available as either semester or year-long programs.
The Global Opportunities office in the Center for Experiential Learning & Diversity is accepting applications for the GO!, Fritz, and GO! STEMXchange scholarships for study abroad. These undergraduate awards range between $2,000 to $5,000. Students whose programs begin during winter or spring quarter 2017 should apply during the fall application cycle. The application deadline for all three of these scholarships is October 25.
I know school hasn’t officially started yet, but just wanted to let everyone know that the Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship application is now open. This scholarship was created by the US Department of State to increase access to study or internships abroad for students of high financial need. To be eligible for this award, students must be receiving a Pell grant as part of their financial aid package at the time they apply.
FULLY FUNDED MARINE, OCEANOGRAPHIC AND ATMOSPHERIC UNDERGRADUATE INTERNSHIPS
Applications are due May 31st 2016!
The Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences (BIOS) has received funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF), for the Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Program, to support eight internships for undergraduate student research at BIOS during Fall 2016 (arrive August 28th and depart November 19th 2016).
An REU internship at BIOS is a great way to gain the experience necessary to embark on graduate studies or careers in the marine and atmospheric sciences.

SAFS is pleased and excited to announce that Samantha Murphy and Griffin Hoins, both undergraduate SAFS majors, were selected to receive a 2016 Bonderman Fellowship.

Fifteen University of Washington students were recently awarded Bonderman Travel Fellowships that will enable them to embark on solo journeys that are at least eight months long and take them to at least two regions and six countries of the world.
