Highlights

Shoreline enhancements seek to restore upon armored conditions.
In our study the two enhancements were a habitat bench and pocket beach.
Juvenile Chinook salmon and larval fishes used the habitat bench and pocket beach. 

Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) seeks to hire 3-4 qualified field technicians for the summer of 2013 to assist with data collection on juvenile salmonid distribution and habitat use in the Chehalis River basin. This is an exciting opportunity to gain critical skills in conducting field research in fish biology. Technicians will assist in all aspects of data collection including, but not limited to, snorkel and habitat surveys, PIT tagging juvenile fish, installing and maintaining PIT tag antennae’s, seining, electrofishing, and other associated data collection techniques. 

This quarter students in FISH310: Biology of Shellfishes all made short videos on  a marine invertebrate. They did an excellent job making short fun videos packed full of fun facts. Bringing Art To Narwhal Research In The Arctic, from EarthFix and KUOW–a piece on Assistant Professor Kristin Laidre and expeditionary artist Maria Coryell-Martin and their scientific and artistic documentation of narwhals in the arctic. 

Dr. Kate Brauman will present “Ecohydrology in a Changing World” on Tuesday April 2, at 4:00 in Anderson 223.
